Your emotional needs from within are the most important to you in relating to yourself and dating your prominent partner.
What is the risk of unmet emotional needs in dating?
In case that
- you don’t know what your emotional needs are,
- you are not able to fulfill them on a regular basis, and
- you expect your emotional needs to be met by your prominent partner,
you are most likely to attract
- emotionally unavailable,
- emotionally immature, or
- emotionally detached
future partners.
In these three cases, there is no way that you can build an emotionally intimate, and lasting relationship because you will be in the loop of attracting avoidant lovers into your life.
Or you will not be able to sustain a long-term committed relationship when you date an emotionally-mature, high-quality partner. As you avoid meeting your own emotional needs, it will be hard to allow yourself to share your deep feelings, wants and desires with your beloved one.
And it will lead you to be disconnected from your heart and your emotional self.
How do you know that your emotional needs are not fulfilled?
1. You feel tired and exhausted.
If you’re not getting enough rest or downtime, it can take a toll on your energy levels. If you find yourself feeling exhausted all the time, it may be an indication that your emotional needs are not met.
2. You feel stressed and overwhelmed.
If you’re feeling anxious or stressed most of the time, it could indicate that you’re trying to do too much or that you’re not asking for the support you need.
3. You feel angry and irritable.
If you find yourself getting angry more easily than usual, it may be a sign that your needs are not being met. Chronic anger can lead to problems in both your personal and professional life.
4. You don’t take care of yourself.
If you’re not taking care of your basic needs, such as eating healthy meals or getting enough exercise, it can be a sign that you’re not prioritizing your own well-being.
5. You use unhealthy coping strategies.
If you find yourself turning to unhealthy habits, such as watching films or videos all the time on social media, overworking, and multitasking, it may be a sign that you’re not adequately dealing with stress or other problems in your life.
6. You are withdrawing from social activities.
If you’re no longer interested in spending time with your friends or participating in activities you used to enjoy, it may show that you’re feeling isolated.
7. You are not achieving your goals.
If you find yourself struggling to reach your personal or professional goals, it can be an indication that you need more support or resources.
8. You feel sick and injured.
If you are getting sick or injured more often than usual, it may be a sign that your body is trying to tell you that something is wrong.
9. You are not happy.
It’s a clear sign that your needs are not being met. If you’re not satisfied with your current situation, it’s important to take steps to make changes.
“Unless you are consciously, continuously and consistently meeting your emotional needs, you may find yourself dating aimlessly and be dependent on a future partner.”
A couple of years ago I was coaching an over-achieving single professional lady, who was dating aimlessly to meet her emotional needs through dating. After a while, men were becoming her friend and she was not able to create deeper emotional intimacy. Even one of her dates started talking about his other girlfriend while he was simultaneously dating.
When I asked her “What have you found attractive in him?“, she said, “At the end of the day, at least, someone was asking me how I was feeling.”
And I asked her “What are the other options that you can build an intimate relationship with?” In her mind, there was no other option except dating to meet her emotional needs, which made her dating fatigue.
“Building a secure and independent sense of self requires knowing, meeting and expressing your own emotional needs.”
This means that you’re emotionally self-reliant while also feeling close and connected to your prominent partner.
What is your biggest challenge when it comes to meeting your emotional needs? How does this challenge show itself when dating?

I’m more than happy to help you build a deeper connection with your emotional self so that you can be emotionally self-reliant while feeling close and connected to your prominent partner.
